Question by buddhaloc: Am I liable for the condo mgmt’s fee for hiring a arlington ma Arlington MA Plumber outside my unit?
A leak in the pipe in parking garage occurred. Condo mgmt hired arlington ma Arlington MA Plumber for $ 480 and determined it was my water heater unit, just the pressure valve needs to be replaced on it. However since it was my unit’s fail, they say that it was my responsibility to take care the $ 480 investigation fee as well. Two issues here: 1.The thing is that if the condo mgmt would’ve just sent out a notice to have tenants check their water heater, it would’ve been a lot cheaper. I had no advance notice of the issue and out of the blue a $ 480 invoice (on top of the water heater I need to replace). 2. Multiple units got the benefit from this investigations, on the invoice it noted to have mgmt contact several units because their preset water temp is set above normal, one unit were diagnose with an erosion on their water heater unit. One unit were noted that their water heater might be at its maximized life. Am I really reliable for the entire bill while many folks are getting the benefit for this? Please advise as finances are tough and I am trying to save a buck or two if my logic is correct and if you feel I have ground for argument. I DID NOT ORDER THE INSPECTION, I SHOULDN’T BE RESPONSIBLE, on top of that multiple people got benefit from this but I TAKE CARE THE BILL?

A arlington ma plumbing leak can be considered an emergency repair, so the management’s investigation of a leak that was going into a public area is warranted. Unfortunately, taking legal advice from anyone on here about your liability to the investigation fee, could be treacherous. You need to check the by-laws for your condo association and potentially consult with legal aid or an attorney to find out where you stand. No matter how many people on here tell you that the charge is Bogus, if your bylaws permit it and your state permits it, your argument will be moot. You can bet that the COA has an attorney they can consult, so free legal advice on a board like this should be understood as being worth exactly what you pay.

You are responsible. It was your leak. Why should someone else pay for your leak? It honestly sounds to you that someone else should pay for this?
The neighbors were not leaking, only you, you are the only reason someone came to see what was wrong in the first place.
